Kelso Library Readers Group 25th September 2007
Welcome back to our Readers' meetings! We had a good turnout on Tuesday last. Ten people in all came along. Three were visitors from U3A...one of them from Coldstream who had come along to see what we had to offer in comparison to Coldstream. Hope they will return. We welcome visitors from anywhere and hope they will continue to come along. Of course our group had been on holiday...but that hadn't stopped any of them reading. Some had even noted down in their little notebooks just what they had been reading. Anything and everything by the sound of it. Sovereign a new book by C. J. Sansom proved popular and books by Rupert Everett, Armistead Maupin and Kate Atkinson were also mentioned.
We have also obtained (thanks to the Library) a number of books in sets which is very useful insofar as all our members can read them at around the same time and then we can compare notes. They are The March by E.L. Doctorow and Observations by Jane Harris. The first is a story of the American Civil War and quite interesting, the second I have not read yet.
Two other books I HAVE read are "Missing" and "Shame" both by a Swedish writer, Karin Altvtegen and both of them I found very good. I got hold of them on holiday from a Spanish visitor to Glasgow so I don't know how available they are here. As usual we all had a lot to talk about and we intend starting a poetry meeting (perhaps once every three months) when we will decide on a topic and bring any relevant poetry we can find and read it out. Anyway that does all for now.....hope to see you on the last Tuesday in October. Doesn't the year fly when you are enjoying yourself?
Happy reading.
