Kelso Library Readers Group 30th October 2007
Kelso Library Readers Group 30th October 2007
We had a good attendance this afternoon. Ten members attending, including four new ladies, who were very welcome. This is NOT a women’s group and more individuals of the male persuasion would make for a better balance in the opinion of one member of the group. Apologies were sent from Ivy, Isabel and Ken, Janet and Moyra.
As usual Ivy’s attendance was sorely missed especially by Pat who took on the task of secretary.
Jeanette has been reading “An Uncommon Reader” by Alan Bennett and one by Ian MacEwen.
We discussed Claire Tomlin’s biography of Thomas Hardy, Anne’s recommendation, which lead to a lively debate.
Peggy asked if anyone had read Elizabeth Taylor’s “Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont” .This comes highly praised.
“The Cutting Room” by Louise Welsh and “The House at Riverton” were also talked about.
Those of us who had read “The March” By E.L.Doctorow agreed NOT to make comments until the rest of the group, who had not read it yet, had opinions on the book.
Reminders of future events arranged for the library were given and a suggestion that we might have a Christmas Lunch or Dinner was put forward for further thought.
The next meeting of the Book Group is on Tuesday 27th November at 2-30pm.
