Kelso Library Readers Group meeting 27th November

I am very pleased to tell you that fifteen people turned up at the meeting. As usual we spoke of the books we had been reading recently.

The books we had been given by the Innerleithen Library group (which meant we could all, more or less read them at the same time) was a great success, and although we could not discuss them fully as some members were still reading them "The March" (by EL Doctorow) seems to have been the favourite. The other one was "The Observations" by Jane Harris, which most of us did not appear to be very impressed with. However as I said we have not all read them yet.

We have ordered another two viz. Catriona McPherson's "The Burry Man's Day"
which is a story about South Queensferry's Burry Man walk and Ferry Fair in 1923; and CJ Sansom's "Winter in Madrid" concerns the Civil War and is involved in the choices of
neutrality or involvement. We will get both these books in due course.

Some of the other thoughts on books our members had been reading and commented on were:- The Kite Runner by Caled Hasseoni; AN Wilson's Betjeman; Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor; The Great Slave Emporium by Wm Sinclair and two I don't know the name of the authors Matisse and Beatrix Potter (and the film of this lady's life was also mentioned.)

We have decided to reward ourselves this year for all our hard reading by having a lunch at Kwan's Chinese in Kelso on 29th January. This will be followed by our meeting back at the Library at 2.30pm. Pat Thomson is arranging the lunch so you could always put your name down for that....Pat is putting up a notice in the Library for anyone interested who wasn't at our last meeting.
