Kelso Library Readers Group meeting 24th June 2008

Kelso Library Readers Group
Meeting Tuesday 24th June

On Tuesday, June 24, we met for lunch in The Cobbles (this was changed as it had originally been agreed to go to Oscars). However we had a nice meal which was appreciated by all who attended. Afterwards we adjourned to the Library for our final meeting before our "summer recess"!!

We discussed a variety of topics including genealogy and how interesting this subject could be. As usual we talked about books we had read recently and decided that as there was no available books "en masse" from the library (mainly because we had read all the books from the list provided previously} we would make our own selection and report back in the autumn. I spoke about this to Ruth afterwards and agreed to see what the Edinburgh Book Festival had to offer in the names of new authors. However there is one interesting point which occurred to me during our meeting. Some of us when talking about a book they had read always concluded that the book was "well written"; but what exactly does that mean? Does it imply that it was grammatically correct?; that it told a good story? that it involved the reader immediately? Or is it just a cover up to get other people to read it? I don't know the answer myself but perhaps when we have our next meeting someone will come up with a solution.

We also had some poetry readings which, as usual, were interesting and hopefully will continue.
Next meeting: Tuesday 30th September 2.30 in the library – all welcome
Put it in your diaries and don't forget to come!
Happy reading
IHE
