Kelso has 3 Rainbow Units, 4 Brownie Units and 2 Guide Units. Each unit has a Guider, Assistant Guider, helper and many have Young Leaders. The Girlguiding movement is a registered charity and as such none of the Kelso Guiders are paid for what they do. They give their time voluntarily and get no payment for the hours they all put in. All the Guiders are enthusiastic and dedicated and more than anything elso want the girls to have an enjoyable experience and grow into confident and happy adults. The girls enjoy friendship, adventure and fun and are given various opportunities to partake in various outdoor activities, camps etc and also undertake many types of challenges for which they can be presented with a badge.
Girls can join the Rainbows aged 5 years, Brownies aged 7 years, Guides aged 10 years and Young Leaders aged 14 years. The Guiders, Assistant Guiders and helpers are all volunteers and come from various backgrounds bringing their life experiences, skills etc into the movement. Most of them are Mums who have children of their own, and all of them work. Their lives are busy but they all seem to "go that extra mile" to ensure that their girls have an enjoyable experience.
If you are interested in either your daughter joining or you yourself are interested in becoming a warranted Guider, or you could perhaps spare an hour or two to help us, please contact Jenny Webb, where you will be able to ask for an enrolment form or have an informal chat.
