Kelso Pipe Band
Kelso Pipe Band was founded by Pipe Major Alan Veitch and Piper Bob Lillie in 1981. Originally it was known as the Kelso Boys Brigade Youth Band concentrating on teaching youngsters in both piping and drumming. It subsequently evolved to become a mainly adult band although there are still some learners of all ages to this day and newcomers are always welcome. There was a gradual movement away from the Boys Brigade and in about 1995 it became known as the Kelso Pipe Band. The band plays on each day during Kelso Civic week and at many other functions throughout the year. It is also affiliated to the Borders Pipe Band Association. Amongst the highlights have been:-
Alan Veitch is still the Pipe Major and Mike Tait is the Lead Drummer. The band wears the Ancient Sutherland tartan. |
