Very Rev David Smith Cairns

The son of the Stichill minister, David attended Ednam Primary School and Kelso High before going to Edinburgh University, United Presbyterian College and Marburg University. He was Minister of the UP Church at Ayton in Berwickshire from 1895-1907. In 1907, he was appointed Professor of Dogmatics and Apologetics at Aberdeen University, a post which he held until 1937. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the United Free Church of Scotland during 1923-24. He was awarded many Honorary degrees from home and abroad. He died in 1946.
