Kelso High School Move to New Building - Events
The present Kelso High School building was opened in August 1939 and since then has been the centre of learning for generations of Kelso’s young people. The building, designed by architects Reid & Forbes is noted for its architectural style and Mayan art deco details. Currently it is Category B listed by Historic Scotland as a building of architectural significance.
When the High School moves to its new site at Angraflat later this year, the present Kelso High School building will close. No decision has yet been taken about its future. There will be a number of events to mark the closure of this iconic and much-loved building.

Kelso High School Memories Project
There is an ongoing project to record the memories of those who have been involved with the school over the last 80 years or so. Former pupils and staff are invited to come into school, either individually or in groups, to record their memories of their time in school. These will be stored in the school archive and can only appreciate with time! They may also be used by pupils as part of their studies in specific subjects. We have a number of varied and fascinating recordings already but hope to get many more. As an aid to memory there is a list of possible topics to talk about:-
Activities: Clubs, Leisure Activities, Community Service
Drama shows, Pantomimes, Prize Giving, Celebration of Achievement, Leavers Evening, End of Term,
Famous Pupils, Pals
Punishments: The Belt, Exercises, Detention
School Buildings: Main Building, 1956 Extension, Assembly Hall, New Block, Music, Croft House, Games Hall
School day, Dress/Uniform or Meals
Sports: Athletics/Sports day, Hockey, Rugby, Tours, Representative – South, Scotland and Other Sports
Subjects: Favourites, New/Old Ones
Teachers: Favourites, Legends
Trips: French Alps, Exchanges, Whithaugh Park and Battlefields
It is also planned to select extracts of the memories and, together with some of the archive photos, to produce a souvenir booklet which will form a lasting memory of the great times experienced in this very special building.
If you would like to take part in the Memories Project, please contact the High School (Telephone: 01573 224444) to arrange a suitable time for you to come in to record. The more recordings we can get the better. While the project will run at least until November, it is only the recordings made before mid-September that can be included in the Souvenir Booklet.
