KELSO HERITAGE SOCIETY
At their November AGM, the members of the Friends of Kelso Museum, intend to change their name to Kelso Heritage Society. The members feel that the time is right to extend the role of the group, not just to seek to establish a museum in Kelso, but to more actively engage with the local community and schools, to promote the rich and diverse historical, cultural and environmental history of Kelso & Surrounding Area.
Over the coming months and years, the group aims to enhance its winter talks and summer walks programme. The upcoming programme is printed within the pages of Kelso Life and on the Kelso Calendar.
New members are always welcome.
The society hopes to establish a number of new conservation projects in town, including making funding applications to facilitate a new Kelso Abbey Community Orchard on a small plot of land adjacent to the Glebe Field. In Partnership with other community groups, it aims to repair and restore some of Kelso’s lost or decaying historical features, such as old hand painted street names, old gas lamps and to produce displays and information material that help promote the town to visitors.
If you are keen to get involved, then please come along to one of our evening meetings.
