St Andrew's Day at Kelso Library, Scotland

St Andrew's Day at Kelso Library

St Andrew's Day celebrated in style at Kelso Library

Kelso Library resounded to the sound of laughter as poems from around Scotland were read to celebrate St Andrew's Day.

A group of 12 people gathered to read and listen to poetry, some humorous, some thought provoking. From McGonagall to G. K. Menzies' "Poaching in Excelsis", the poetry was shared and enjoyed.
Poetry for children was amongst the most popular and it was amazing to hear that "The Sair Finger" was recited for competitions many years ago and still is today.

Local poetry was represented by John Buchan, Will Ogilvie, Sir Walter Scott, Sir George Douglas and the hilarious "Reivers’ Final Fling" by Tim Douglas.

The final word was left to Alasdair Hutton who read two verses which encapsulate Scotland from Sir Walter Scott's "The Lay of the last Minstrel".

Thanks to everyone who came along, we hope to have more poetry events in 2008.
